Ask me anything about what's happening. I only cover cannabis, and I'll tell you when something is outside what I know rather than guessing.

Educational information, not medical advice. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous and is outside what this covers. In crisis, call or text 988 (US).

How to read this

Established  Replicated findings, controlled studies or meta-analysis.

Emerging  Real evidence but limited — small samples, single studies, or mixed results.

Inference  General physiology applied to this situation. Reasonable, but not directly studied in cannabis withdrawal.

Most guides don't tell you which is which. That's the main reason this one exists.

Where this stops. Cannabis withdrawal is miserable but not dangerous. Alcohol withdrawal can be fatal — if you're also stopping heavy drinking, that's a medical matter, not a reading matter. Shaking, confusion, fever or a racing heart after stopping drinking is an emergency.

This is information, not medical advice, and it's no substitute for a doctor who knows your history. If you're having thoughts of harming yourself, in the US call or text 988.

The handbook is free. It always will be.

Every word above, permanently, no account, no card.

If you'd like it to know what day you're on, remember what you already tried, and answer at 3am — that's the part that costs something.
